Buying Baby Furniture on a Budget

Ok, so you're not Angelina Jolie, and can not quite afford a $1800 round crib with all the plush stuff to match. Yet, you would like a few nice pieces of baby furniture without spending a fortune. Here are a few tips on finding and buying baby furniture on a budget.

Before we begin with the tips on buying baby furniture on a budget, I would like to stress the number one rule. Buy baby furniture with safety in mind at all times. Make sure, if you buy any used baby furniture, especially the crib, or other baby gear, the product meets all the current safety standards and requirements.

You can find crib safety standards at: http://www.nsc.org/library/facts/cribtips.htm and http:// www.cpsc.gov.

You should plan on acquiring two essential nursery furniture items: a safe crib and a comfortable small rocking chair. The rocking chair is a wonderful piece of furniture for calming baby and late night feedings.

There are a number of ways to save on baby furniture. Here are a few tips on buying low cost baby furniture:

Many times, used baby furniture is a good buy. Flea markets and yard sales or garage sales are good places to start searching for used baby furniture. Plus, getting out and about in the fresh air is good fun and exercise!

Another source of low or even no cost baby furniture is from family and/or friends. Just make sure the furniture is in good shape and meets the safety standards.

eBay Auctions through Gotzee Bargains is also a good source of both new and used baby furniture. Before you buy anything on eBay make sure 1) the seller has good feedback; 2) the seller will ship the item (many times furniture items are listed as pickup only); 3) Check and make sure the item is not online elsewhere at a lower cost after you add the shipping cost. Sometimes eBay sellers add a high shipping cost, which increases the overall cost of the item. If you wish to research the price of an item, simply go to google.com and enter the brand name of the item in the search box. Google search should return several places to check on the price(s).

Another online source of low cost baby furniture items is Overstock.com. At the time of writing this article, Overstock.com had several baby cribs available starting from $150 to $385. The great thing about Overstock.com is their shipping prices. Usually, they offer a low shipping price of $2.95 on the whole order, within the continental United States.

Searching for good deals and low cost baby furniture both online and off line can be fun. Again, please keep safety in mind at all times.
