For many couples getting pregnant comes very easy (too easy sometimes). For instance, recently while John Travolta was on The Ellen Show, he told Ellen and the viewing audience that he and Kelly Preston (his wife) have no problems getting pregnant, and that they plan on getting pregnant this summer (2007). For others trying to get pregnant can take months, even years and become very frustrating. This article will give you a few "get pregnant tips" to those who have just decided to get pregnant or have been trying to get pregnant for only a few months.
|
| | First, everyone should already know the one thing you have to do to get pregnant is to have sexual intercourse, of course. Yet many may not be aware that timing is everything.
Did you know that there is only 2 days possibly 3 days a month that women can conceive? Determining those magic days is the first tip we will address. |
- Tip #1 - Learn your body's monthly cycle.
The normal or general monthly cycle is based on 28 days. Day one is counted on the first day of your period. Then 14 days later a women should ovulate, and 14 days after that you should have your next period.
When you desire to get pregnant, it is important to be aware of when you ovulate. You ovulate when an "egg(s)" drops from an ovary and travels down the fallopian tube. If active live sperm is present, it may attach to the egg and voila, you are pregnant. Sperm can live from 2 to 3 days in your body after sexual intercourse. Those are the only days you can become pregnant -- when an egg is present from ovulation, and active live sperm is present.
Unfortunately, many women are not "regular" -- they may ovulate 10 days after their period began or 18 days after their period began. The key to figuring out when you are ovulating if you are not "by the book" regular is pay attention to your body.
- Tip #2 - Start recording your monthly cycle.
If you have not been recording your monthly periods / cycle, now is the time to start. Mark a calendar with the very first day you start(ed) your period with a big #1. Then each day thereafter mark it ... the second day of your period would be marked #2, the third day of your period would be marked #3 and so on. Continue marking the calendar even when your period stops with each subsequent day. On day #10 start paying closer attention to how you feel.
Signs of Ovulation: : Many times right before you ovulate, you may feel a little crabby (not quite as bad as PMS, but still crabby). Also, another sign of ovulation -- actually almost the exact time when the egg drops or pulls away from the ovary, you may feel a cramp in one side or the other of your lower abdomen -- something like a menstrual cramp (some women have very bad paid when they ovulate). Another sign of ovulation (and sometimes referred to as the "plug"), is a change in your vaginal secretions. The secretions become much thicker which indicates the path is open to receive sperm (many women are highly fertile at this time).
There are devices and methods that can predict ovulation. One method is taking your temperature every morning with a basal thermometer (downside is your temperature change may be very slight and it is quite a chore). Or even an ovulation kit (the downside with this is, it means you make sex too scheduled, which can lead to stress (not good when trying to get pregnant); and the kits can be very expensive at $20 - $30).
- Tip #3 - Have sex once a day around the time you think you may be ovulating.
Once you have determined when you may ovulate, and when you have noticed some of the ovulation signs indicated above, try to have sexual intercourse on those days
- Tip #4 - Have Sex 2 to 3 times a week consistently.
First, having sex 2 to 3 times a week is good for any relationship -- really! Second, if you consistently have sex, you are bound to hit a fertile day and get pregnant. -- NOTE: This is the easiest tip of all -- no counting or recording.
Most healthy couples usually can get pregnant within 6 months of trying; some can take up to 12 months. If you have been trying for 12 months or longer, you may wish to consider speaking to your doctor to rule out any fertility issues.
Our hope these "Get Pregnant Tips" have been helpful and you get pregnant fast!
